More so than the fireworks on the 31st of December and the appearance of daffodils in spring, September feels like a new beginning. After the summer holidays and a generally quieter period of business activities, we are hopefully feeling refreshed and revived, and ready to ‘return’ to work with a new sense of energy and purpose.
Whether or not we have children, we experience those back-to-school vibes, as something that has been ingrained in our memories from childhood. Consciously or unconsciously, we may find ourselves reaching for a new notebook, coveting a new item of clothing, or reorganising our desk drawer.
It is a time for reconnecting with friends, family, and colleagues, and to plan the work and social events, that we have all so missed over these past 18 months.
Whether you are returning to a physical office or working remotely, you will no doubt be refocusing your mind on what you want to achieve in your personal and professional life. As you set new goals and challenges, take time to devise your strategy and implementation plans, so that your goals do not become pipe dreams.
It is also a great time to revisit existing goals and priorities, to check in on initiatives and projects that may have gone off the boil during the holiday period. The last quarter of the calendar year offers a deadline and can reignite our energy for the final sprint to the finish line.
