Navigating Challenges and Shaping the Future
We hope you enjoy watching our second interview in the series as much as we enjoyed having the conversation with Tamie Hutchins, Group Human Resources Director at Finlays. We didn’t expect to be hearing about sausage sandwiches, Thomas the Tank Engine, teenagers and physicists, but it was all relevant!
We delved into Tamie's career journey which was born out of a combination of unexpected opportunities, and her drive to actively pursue some key roles. Tamie's belief in building relationships and her inclination to add to her experience and knowledge makes her an exceptional HR leader. "I've always found that making the most of every opportunity to learn and meet people and taking a chance on that next move has been really successful in my journey."
Tamie shared her profound belief in the power of relationship management, as she learned from her early experiences working in an Industrial Relations department: "The right relationship was often the key to solving almost any problem."
Tamie highlighted the challenges posed by generational shifts, emphasising the need for HR to adapt and embrace the differences: "It won't be the same for us as it was for our predecessors." Tamie advocates for a partnership with younger generations and the importance of listening and involving them in the journey, and at times, swallowing your pride.
In the area of diversity, Tamie offered practical insights, urging a focus on the basics, learning from experts, and most importantly, involving and empowering people.
Happy watching!
